Objectives of the study program

TO TRAIN THE STUDENT FOR:

  1. introducing students to the development of psychology as a science and profession,
  2. introducing students to the basic concepts, methods, schools and directions in psychology and branches of psychology,
  3. mastering basic psychological concepts and theoretical systems,
  4. understanding the dependence and connection of psychic phenomena on organic and biological processes,
  5. understanding the principles and laws of the process of perception, motivational and emotional processes, learning and the process of cognition,
  6. adoption of a statistical way of thinking characteristic of understanding psychological phenomena and processes,
  7. understanding the basic concepts, knowledge and principles of measurement theory and psychological testing,
  8. recognition of steps in the construction of tests,
  9. conceptualizing a scientific research project,
  10. knowledge of all aspects of socialization and understanding of social factors, motives and attitudes,
  11. understanding of the basic principles of human psychological development and mechanisms of developmental changes,
  12. mastering the main concepts and theoretical models in the field of learning and teaching,
  13. understanding and applying standards for evaluating educational outcomes,
  14. use of knowledge in the creation and development of educational policy, 
  15. introduction to the models of educational management and its characteristics,
  16. understanding the psycho-physiological basis of human work activity,
  17. knowledge of management styles and rewarding practices and their influences on motivation and work behavior,
  18. understanding mobbing,
  19. adoption of principles on which market research is conducted and media campaigns are organized,
  20. understanding the importance of prevention and training for preventive work in various fields,
  21. training to distinguish mentally healthy from mentally disturbed behavior,
  22. introduction to the subject of clinical psychology,
  23. knowledge of different therapeutic modalities and the ability to integrate theoretical and practical knowledge in the form of application of basic units - therapeutic interventions,
  24. knowledge of crisis intervention techniques,
  25. knowledge of techniques in clinical assessment,
  26. mastering diagnostic procedures and interpretation of test material results,
  27. recognition of mental disorders in relation to their syndrome manifestation,
  28. adoption of standards of work of psychologists and code of ethics of psychologists,
  29. developing team cooperation,
  30. readiness to follow the professional literature and continue professional training.

In order to achieve these educational goals during their studies, students should experience, in addition to traditional teaching, different types of teaching methods such as:

  • interactive communication in the teaching process;
  • lectures illustrated with slides and video clips;
  • small group work;
  • seminar papers in which students present a specific topic and their suggestions for solving problems;
  • problem-oriented workshops where truthful or simulated situations are presented and students analyze and try to find a solution;
  • demonstration of skills; (access to the patient in the pharmacy, communication with healthcare workers...);
  • research work.

All forms of active teaching are based on interactive teaching which is characterized by discussions about the problem that is the topic of the teaching unit, presenting a personal position supported by theoretical or experiential argumentation, noticing dilemmas related to the topic and solving them. Interactive teaching, as a modern method of teaching, will enable students to better understand the program material, acquire knowledge, form their own attitudes and adopt existing scientific doctrines.

The University of Bijeljina was established by the College of Health Care Bijeljina, based on the Consent of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska.

The mission of the University is to enable the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and competencies, primarily for candidates from Semberija and surrounding regions, then the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina and from other interested countries. That is, performing educational scientific research and knowledge transfer in the economy.
